My Thoughts:

Eloise “Lo” Stone seems to have the weight of the world on her shoulders – something a parent just wouldn’t understand.  What I loved with this one is that the author kept me on tenterhooks about whether or not Maverick “Rick” Prince was a love interest and whether their feelings were mutual.  We’re given hints of a summer where Lo wasn’t quite sure what happened – almost like the movie Grease.  I could picture this playing out against any of the “teenage” shows out there now. Especially as you see that the author has captured Lo’s attitude perfectly.  I can almost picture in my head each scene and every word as they play out.

The sad part is that Lo seems so lost – like she’s the odd girl out.  The story starts after a very painful incident in her life.  Even though this is listed as a young adult, I would say it’s more toward the new adult side.  The reason I say this is because there is underage drinking.  Also, Lo and Rick seem more adult than teenager and as adults they do adult things.  This is where I felt that it was a little disconnected since what parent would approve of their teenager getting into alcohol and not putting a stop to it.  But then that would just add more to the story and it might change what these teenagers are going through.  For those of you that may be on the fence about whether their child might like to read it or not, I say read it yourself first. Personally I enjoyed the story and at times forgot that these kids were still in high school. 

There are adults in the story and I found myself wanting to know more about Lo’s step aunt and uncle’s story.  Because this is told from Lo’s point of view, we don’t know how they got to where they are once Lo lets us into her life.  I also can’t wait to see how Lo and Rick’s story continues because the ending just left me wanting more – where do they go from here?  Luckily I don’t have to wait too long since January isn’t all that far away – right?
