Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Saints and Sinners Books and the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

One girl disappeared. After fifteen years, her cold lifeless body was found on the damp forest floor. Not an inch of her was unmarked by the horrors she endured. Alone, malnourished, abused in horrific ways; this was how she died.
One girl was found walking the streets, covered in dirt and scars. She had no memory of who she was, where she came from, or what happened to her. Even though the marks on her body attested to years of heinous abuse, her strength shone through at every turn.
Revenge and justice were sworn.
Years of searching brought up nothing but dead ends. Detective Niko James was too late to save his childhood friend, but he vows not to let down another.
The clock is ticking and the trail is pitch dark.

*TRIGGER WARNING* Some scenes depict abusive situations.

PD Review

Theres a Disclaimer at the beginning of the book.  If you do purchase this book please make sure to read it carefully.

We rely on the characters of a book to let us know what they see and what theyre feeling.  Niko does that very clearly – one reason for the disclaimer.  The Prologue shows the harsh reality that not everyone has a perfect life or a happy ending.  Its a story that will have you shaking your head and feeling sorry.

Lelu lets us see how a man can sometimes love pain.  We havent had a story like this in the news for a while but that doesnt mean that something like this isnt happening.  Its a reminder to be diligent about keeping an eye on whats happening around you.

If you have a heart, this story is going to affect you in some way.  Its very sad and its tough to read because of the violence.  This is a book that I had no choice but to put down because of how it affected me and how it made me feel.  The authors know their jobs because theyve created a character that almost made me physically ill and not wanting to continue.  But they also have me fondly remembering how much I love the tv show Criminal Minds.  Its how they care about finding justice for the victims.

And thats exactly what kept me reading.  I have to believe that if it was tough for me to read that it must have been just as tough for the authors to write.  Their words are so strong and evoke even stronger emotions.  Expect to get angry and maybe to even cry.  But the biggest emotion is frustration because even though you know its a work of fiction, you feel as if your hands are tied.  You may not have been able to help Lelu but you can check around your area to see if theres something you may be able to do for those like her.  For me this story was more about the horror against humanity so it makes it more of a thriller in my eyes.  The romance once it comes was just a great way to lighten a very dark mood.

A.M. WILSON

A. M. Wilson loves infusing her stories with real life—the good, the bad, and the steamy parts. She thinks there’s something special about romance; that pivotal moment when two characters realize their love for each other, but she likes wading through a little angst to get there. When she isn’t furiously typing on her computer, she can be found searching for her next all-consuming read. A. M. lives in Minnesota with her husband, two children, and black lab.
