Lucy Laedelia Penreith works for the Evening Herald and she is very passionate about her job.  Mischa Busnetsky is in Moscow and is known as a dissident.  He strongly believes in something and was punished for those beliefs.  One thing I find fascinating was that this past Sunday, I was watching CBS Sunday Morning and they had a piece on the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.  He reminded me a little of Mischa. 

John Bentinek also works for the paper and one evening he comes to Laddy’s for dinner.  This is one character that if I could pick an actor to play John it would be John Malkovich.  Malkovich is a great actor because I always hate the characters that he plays.  And he would do a great job portraying Bentinek.

Alexandra does a great job of showing how the press behaves when celebrities are around.  And also how those on the receiving end feel about the paparazzi.  Alexandra shows what a boss, who may not be happy with one of their staff, may do when they have been handed what they consider substandard work.  She also has me reminiscing of when I first fell in love with romance novels.

It was a time when more times than not sex was hinted about or inferred.  You rarely read the actually act itself.  It makes you realize how much times have changed.  But it also makes me think that after watching the piece on Weiwei, and reading Mischa’s story, some things have not changed.  They always say that there are two things we can count on and that is death and taxes.  But there is one more thing that we can count on and that is politics and the treatment of humanity.  Some things may never change until I’m long gone – but one can always hope.

This is a story that will hold you captive from beginning to end.  You will find that you will not want to put this book down until you have read it from cover to cover – it never slows down.  It is a story that I can picture being made into a movie.  But until that happens, at least get yourself a copy of this book.  You will not be disappointed.
